Jimmy Darmody’s slicked back undercut turned into the manbun
You would be surprised at the kind of man bun haircuts that you can get away; all you need is your hair on the top of the head to be at least 6 inches of length and you’re good to go. Thus, some of the men’s haircuts that favor the manbun include the undercut, the layered cut and the taper cut. With regards to the hair on the top when wanting to style a bun, you can have the hair at an even length or with any kind of layers, but you truly need to ensure that the minimum length that you have on the top of the head is 6 inches, as otherwise you will simply not be able to tie a bun on your head.
Jimmy Darmody’s slicked back undercut
If you have read around my site, you will have read how I have explained that the manbun can be alternated with other men’s hairstyles, most notably the slicked back undercut. In fact, a man bun is simply an extension of the slicked back undercut, so the transition from the slick back style to the man bun is fairly smooth, whether there’s an undercut or not, actually. Do bear in mind, however, that the slicked back undercut only allows you to sport a semi bun (aka half man bun) as the hair on the sides and back of the head are clipped very short as per the regular undercut haircut.
As an example of a good haircut for the man bun, Continue reading
Growing the perfect manbun as a dude
So I take it that you are static to grow yourself a man bun, and you’re definitively in the right place for that. However, prior to jumping on your bun-growing journey, you first need to know what a man bun really is. In fact, you need to first know what hair length for the man bun you want to get as that will impact the type of man bun that you will be growing: a semi bun or full man bun. Continue reading
All about the hair length for your manbun undercut
The minimum hair length for a man bun hairstyle is 6 inches. I’ve talked about the reasons for this in my man bun length guide and in other posts of this site, and I’ve mentioned how getting to this hair length won’t take that long for your average young male with a trendy hairstyle. I’ve also gone through what makes up the two types of man bun styles: the semi bun (made of only hair on the top of the head) and the full bun (made of hair from all the scalp). It’s the semi bun the one that can be styled with 6 inches of hair length, and I also call the semi bun: man bun undercut. Continue reading
Add a manbun to your slick back undercut hairstyle
The slicked back undercut is a great mens hairstyle, if I may say so. I like it in particular because it uses a clean haircut (as the undercut is) while keeping its classic nature by allowing the top to be slicked back with pomade or styling wax. In essence and with regards to the slick back undercut, you basically end up with no hair on the sides and back of your head (for that clean and sharp look) while the hair on the top of your head is flattened in a slicked back style (for that classic gentleman’s look). No matter how you slice it, you just have a ladies-winning hairstyle with the slicked back undercut. Continue reading
How much hair length for a man bun?
Everyone is talking about the man bun. Some people will even call it a bro bun. Others will call it the dude bun. It doesn’t matter; people are talking about it.
With so much talk about the manbun, people start wondering if they can achieve a man bun with their hair length. The answer? There is a minimum hair length you need to achieve. Of course, if you are wanting to style the beard man bun look, and want to know what should be the length of your beard, then any amount of facial hair is fine; just don’t get too hipster with it, ok?
There are two types of man buns: full man bun and half man bun. This is what I call it and I also guide my barbershop clients with those terms as it makes it easy for them to understand. Let’s explore each type of man bun and what is the minimum length needed. Continue reading
Dog asks why get a manbun when he can get a dog bun?
You know you’re all gung-ho about the man bun hairstyle when you give your dog a man bun. Luke is my dog and he is one heck of a trendy dog. While I doubt he’s the only dog to have ever had a hair bun on his head, he’s the first dog to be featured online with a hair bun, and where else to be featured when it comes to manbuns than at the official man bun website!
We have, however, changed the name of the hairstyle from man bun to dog bun. I do wonder if I could clip the sides and back of his hair for a man bun undercut hairstyle. Perhaps I should put my dog through the stress in the name of fashion? Just kidding here, I’m just keeping the dog bun, but I do buzz his hair in summer as he’s got too much fur going on for where I live.
What do y’all think of Luke’s dog bun?
Get an undercut below that man bun!
One of the variations of the man bun hairstyle is the man bun undercut. With this variation what you do is you get the sides and back of your head cut short. You use a hair clipper and clip (i.e. cut with the hair clipper) the sides and back of your head with the same hair clipper guard or comb.
Look at yourself in front of the mirror, with your face facing towards the front. Look at your hairline across your forehead, spot the sides of the hairline on the forehead where the hairline begins to drop or tilt; that’s what we call the temples of the forehead. For the record, men begin to bald at the temples, so it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your temples for any hair loss. Continue reading
